Our Impact

Wounded Warrior Project is transforming the way America’s injured veterans are empowered, employed, and engaged in our communities. We believe that every warrior has a positive future, and we work together to get them there by setting and achieving goals, big or small.

Since 2003, we’ve been tireless advocates for our nation’s finest, improving the lives of millions of warriors, families, and caregivers. Our mission continues 20 years later.

The impact we have because of donor support is far-reaching.

  • We estimate there are 1.5 million veterans nationwide eligible for our programs and services.
  • We invested nearly $2.4 billion since 2003 to support warriors’ needs in mental and brain health, career counseling, benefits, physical health and wellness, connection, long-term rehabilitative care, and advocacy.
  • Today, we provide direct support to more than 240,000 warriors, families, and caregivers. The need is great and growing. Every month in 2023, more than 2,200 warriors and family members registered with Wounded Warrior Project to receive our free programs and services.
  • We partnered with four leading academic medical centers to form Warrior Care Network® in 2015 to pioneer clinical trauma care and research.
  • We created Wounded Warrior Project’s Independence Program more than a decade ago to help fill a gap in care for our nation’s most severely wounded veterans.
  • We held more than 8,000 events to connect wounded veterans with their peers last year.
  • We provided more than 66,300 hours of treatment last year for warriors coping with invisible wounds, including PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, substance abuse disorder, and military sexual trauma.
  • We helped veterans secure over $175.7 million in benefits claims last year.
  • We delivered career coaching services that led to more than 1,500 warriors and family members getting jobs last year.

No warrior or caregiver should ever feel like they’re alone. We work together as a community and a team because together we can accomplish more. Warriors never pay a penny for our programs – because they paid their dues in service to our country. Our free services in mental health, career counseling, and long-term rehabilitative care change lives. We’re committed to helping wounded veterans achieve their highest ambition. When they’re ready to start their next mission, we stand ready to serve.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is a charity under 501(c)(3) organization with a tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service. Donations to the organization are deductible as charitable contributions. The WWP Federal I.D. number for donations is #20-2370934.

WWP proudly provides free services and support to hundreds of thousands of post-9/11 veterans, families, and caregivers. We are good stewards of the donations we receive, and those donations are helping change and save lives.  

We are recognized for having a great impact and for operating with efficiency, transparency, and accountability by organizations that evaluate nonprofits.  

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance report found that spending was “consistent with its programs and missions,” clearing WWP of scandal accusations.

We will continue to provide free services in mental health, career counseling, long-term rehabilitative care for those we serve as well as advocate for policies that improve the lives of millions more warriors and their families.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is a direct service organization. 100% of your donation supports wounded warriors. About 71% — nearly $260 million in fiscal year 2023 — was spent directly on programs and services for wounded warriors, families, and caregivers. The balance paid to support the delivery of this life-changing support.

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) invested $88 million in fundraising in 2023, less than 24% of expenses. That investment brought in nearly $3.80 per dollar spent. This investment drove the free programs and services that improve the lives of veterans, families, and caregivers. These programs help with mental and brain health, career counseling, benefits, physical health and wellness, connection, long-term rehabilitative care, and advocacy. 

WWP has a four-star rating – the highest possible rating – from Charity Navigator. Charity Navigator’s rating says, “You can give with confidence.” We are Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited charity that has met all the organization’s standards for accountability.  In addition, WWP holds a 2024 Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid (formerly GuideStar).

Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) is a direct service organization that provides all programs and services at zero cost to the warriors, family members, and caregivers we serve. To provide those free programs and services, we rely on the incredible generosity of our donors. We reach donors through fundraising efforts. 

Developing and delivering direct programs and services that fill gaps in government care and combat complex issues, like mental health or personal independence, require more resources (including the expertise of Wounded Warrior Project staff to support them).
